Privacy policy

Your contacts, your notes and your history stay on your device. There is no account and no sign-up.

Last updated: 25 July 2026

This is a translation for convenience. The legally binding version is the GermanDatenschutzerklärung.

In short

Your contacts are the heart of this app, and they are the part that never leaves your device. Your address book is not copied, not uploaded and not analysed. Your list of friends, your notes and your history are stored locally only. There is no account, no sign-up and no advertising. We do not read your messages.

What Cuth does record is an anonymous usage statistic: which screens are opened and which features are used. Those numbers help us improve the app. They contain no names, no phone numbers and nothing from your address book. You can switch them off in the options. Details are in the “Usage statistics” section below.

What data the app processes

All of the following is stored locally on your device only, in a database inside the app:

  • the names of the people you add to Cuth, along with the phone number you selected
  • the rhythm you set per person
  • the history of contacts you noted, meaning date, type of contact and your optional notes
  • your settings, such as reminder time, language and breaks

This data is not transmitted to us or to third parties. We have no access to it.

Access to your contacts

If you want to import people from your address book, Cuth asks for contacts permission. The selection happens on your device. Only the people you pick are stored in Cuth. Your address book is not read out, not copied and not transmitted. You can withdraw the permission at any time in the iOS settings and add people by hand instead.

The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, which you give through the iOS dialogue.

Notifications

Cuth can remind you of one person a day. These notifications are scheduled and triggered locally on your device. There is no push server that data flows to, and no device token that becomes known to us. You can turn notifications off in the app and in the iOS settings at any time.

Messaging and calling

When you tap a person in Cuth, the app opens the route you chose, for example WhatsApp, Messages or the phone. Cuth only hands over the phone number and opens that app. The content of your conversation is never read, stored or analysed by Cuth. Once the other app is open, its privacy terms apply.

App updates

Cuth can load smaller updates without you having to install a new version from the App Store. To do so, the app asks the update service Expo (Expo, Inc., 650 California St, San Francisco, CA 94108, USA) on launch whether a newer version exists. Technically necessary information is transmitted in the process, including your IP address, the installed app version and the device type. No content from inside the app is transmitted.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a functioning and error-free app under Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. The transfer to the USA is based on the provider's standard contractual clauses.

App Store

Apple handles the download of the app. In doing so, Apple processes data such as your Apple ID, payment information and time of download. We have no influence over this. The controller is Apple Distribution International Ltd., Hollyhill Industrial Estate, Hollyhill, Cork, Ireland.

Usage statistics

So that we can see which parts of the app are actually used and where it gets stuck, Cuth records an anonymous usage statistic. For this we use Umami, an open source analytics tool that we run ourselves on our own server. No service from Google, Meta or any other provider is involved, and no data is passed on to third parties.

What is transmitted:

  • which screen was opened and which feature was used
  • device type, operating system version, app version, screen size and language
  • a rough region derived from the IP address
  • a pseudonymous identifier so that related requests can be grouped into one session

What is not transmitted: names, phone numbers, photos, your notes, your history or anything else from your address book. The statistic tells us that a contact was added, never who.

The IP address is processed to determine the region and to build the pseudonymous identifier, but it is not stored. We set no cookies and create no advertising ID. There is no recognition over longer periods or across other apps and websites.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a functioning and comprehensible app under Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. You can object to this at any time: in the app under Options, section Privacy, using the “Anonymous usage statistics” switch. From then on nothing is sent.

No advertising

Cuth contains no advertising and no ad networks. No advertising profiles are created, nothing is sold and nothing is passed on to third parties. In particular, your contact details are never used for advertising purposes.

This website

The website cuth-app.com is hosted by Cloudflare Germany GmbH and Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When pages are requested, the provider processes technically necessary connection data such as your IP address, the date and time of the request, the address requested and browser and operating system details. This data is required to deliver the page and to protect against attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. The transfer to the USA is based on standard contractual clauses.

This website also records an anonymous usage statistic using Umami, the same self-hosted software as in the app. Recorded are the page requested, the page you came from, browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language and a rough region. The IP address is processed for this but not stored. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.

No cookies are needed for this, and nothing is stored on your device. That is why you see no consent banner here. If you would rather not be counted at all, any common content blocker will block the script, or you can enable “Do Not Track” in your browser, which our instance respects.

Beyond that, this website loads no content from external servers. Fonts are hosted locally on this site's own server, there are no Google Fonts or comparable services embedded.

Storage and deletion

Your data stays on your device until you delete it. You can remove individual people and entries in the app. If you uninstall Cuth, all local data of the app is removed with it. Please note that a backup of your iPhone at Apple, for example via iCloud, may also contain the app's data. Apple is the controller for that backup.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the rights to information, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Since we store no personal data about you, we can usually only confirm that we hold none. Your data sits with you, and you can view and delete it yourself at any time.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible is the one where you live.
